Xiuxiuejar is one of the most beautiful words in the Catalan language and at the same time the name of the first social network created exclusively in Catalan. Developed by engineer Metkhal Khalawi, a Syrian refugee settled in Molins de Rei, the initiative arises with the desire to create a digital space entirely in the Catalan language, managed from Catalonia, with a model based on data sovereignty and that becomes an alternative to the large conventional platforms. The social network 'Xiuxiuejar' is similar to the social network 'X' and allows you to publish short messages, which are called 'Xius' and are limited to 280 characters, link with other users and participate in thematic spaces on diverse areas such as, for example, comics, architecture or astronomy. The initiative works through its official website, where, for now, there are around 21,000 registered profiles, of which approximately a thousand profiles enter, publish and interact regularly.
Thus, the main distinguishing features of the social network 'Xiuxiuejar' are the exclusive use of Catalan as the language of the platform and the local control of the infrastructure with servers managed from Catalonia and an explicit commitment to the protection of users' personal data. Currently, the social network 'Xiuxiuejar' seeks to increase the social community by expanding the number of users in order to guarantee its continuity , as well as promote an active and dynamic network that gives meaning to the idea.
